Washington Preparatory School to open in 2018 and announces its Founding Head of School, veteran educator, Mindy J Watson

Bothell, WA – November 18 – 2017

Washington Preparatory School (WPS) a private, independent school serving grades 6 – 12 will open in the fall of 2018 with grades 6 – 9.  The school will add one grade a year until 2022 when it will graduate its first class of high school students.  The school will offer a number of programs including The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme for students in grades 11 and 12.  WPS expects to be authorized to offer the full IB Diploma in the fall of 2020.

In addition to the IB Diploma, the school’s curriculum will focus on Project Based Learning and Science, Technology, Entrepreneurship, Engineering, and Math (STEEM).  Entrepreneurial thinking skills enable WPS students to connect their STEM knowledge with real-world problems. The fusion of STEM with the entrepreneurial spirit - understanding and applying the innovative process - will allow WPS graduates to become leaders and influencers in business, education, and the social sector.

Mindy J Watson was appointed last week as the Founding Head of School after an extensive search.  Ms. Watson has served in two highly respected independent schools: Charles Wright Academy in her early career and at Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences for the last twenty years.  She has been a teacher, coach, outdoor and international trip leader, dean of students, head of upper school, and dean of faculty for STEM program areas. Her focus has always been on providing opportunities for each student to grow academically and personally.

WPS welcomes parents and students to come to its first Open House on November 18 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.  The schools temporary school site is located at 18323 Bothell Everett Highway, Bothell, WA 98012. The future site is located across the street where construction has begun on a 13.5 acre campus with the first 35,000 square foot building to open in the fall of 2019.

Come meet Ms. Watson, the administrative staff, and some of the teachers that will be the founding members of Bothell’s most innovative 6 – 12 school of the future.
